Today's whimsical wildflower wedding took place at the Ocean Club Hotel this past fall. Our bride, Kristin, has sentimental ties with the nautical world, growing up in a family that owned a boat named after her and her siblings. It seemed only natural that she would get married on the sands of Cape May, and we love the gesture that she made to show how welcomed her new-husband, Luke, is to her family (you can see it in her ceremony photos, below.)
Huge thank you and shout out to Jennifer Baumann Photography for these photos - it became really hard to limit what we used in this post, because we honestly loved them all! Our portfolio has had a significant increase in quality thanks to her wonderful work.
Kristin's bouquet was a plethora of soft pinks, greens, and silver. We created this look using light pink stock, light pink garden roses, succulents, lisianthus, dahlias, brunia berries, herbs and artemesia.
In a wedding world that has been full of blush, these pale green dresses are a breath of fresh air while still keeping that soft and subtle color palate that is so photogenic. And the detailing on Kristin's dress is to die for!!
Luke had one of the most fun bouts we've had the pleasure of putting together. We used artemesia, succulents, airplants, thistle and a touch of dusty miller for this masculine and textural piece.
We toned it down a little for Luke's groomsmen, adding in a scabiosa pod. Anyone else notice how perfectly that velvet wrap matches the ties??
What a carefree and happy couple!!
Here is the couple's elegant and beachy ceremony space!
Kristin is a woman of sentiment, and it showed in her decor. On the left panel of this rented chalkboard, Kristin wanted different types of herbs with their interpreted meanings. The right panel is based off of a picture Kristin sent us of her father's boat. It's original name, "NIMIKRIS," was a combination of the first few letters of his three children's names...he then added Luke in with blue painters tape (you can kind of see it in the blue chalk!) updating the name to "NIMILUKRIS." We think this is so sweet to include and were happy to create it for her!
For the base of the chalkboard, we created these arrangements in these awesome crab traps, with anemones, waxflower, and pink lisianthus.
For Kristin and Luke's ceremony, we set up our bamboo canopy, and hung these vintage bottles. Each bottle held a variation of the herbs from the chalkboard (chives, lavender, rosemary, etc.) , along with dahlias, anemones, and roses for some color.
You want a florist committed to the job? These dahlias were grown right in our gardens and made us proud the entire season.
Onto the reception! For the card table, we used our silver stands for these adorable pink pillar candles - they made such a nice pop of color! We added two silver mercury vases of roses, sweet pea, stock and berries, and put another vase on a candlestick - there's always room for a little extra detail, so we snuck in a couple succulents!
Why let the bouquets sit back in the hotel room, when you can put them right on display as bar decor!
There are little alcoves in between the indoor and outdoor seating areas, and we added some scattered arrangements to help connect the space. Here we have a silver mercury votive, succulents, a little vase filled with sand and a white rose, and a couple vintage bottles from the ceremony.
Here's a wide shot of the interior space. Having the blush centerpieces proved to be a very pretty contrast to the deep blue of the walls.
These low style centerpieces featured silver mercury bud vases clustered together with astilbe, dahlias, roses and ranunculus.
The outdoor porch had the same style centerpieces, but what a different feel with the sky background! This is a very beachy feel, though both sections of the space are so uniquely beautiful reception areas.
We love these wooden table numbers, they are a solid enough to stand on their own (you wouldn't believe how hard that is to find with table numbers!) and are a pretty silver to still match the rest of the decor.
Kristin's bouquet was such a bold statement piece, it made another stunning appearance at her sweetheart table!
Love love love how Kristin went bold with her cake flowers! Here we accented with more succulents, a garden rose, lisianthus, and those great pink dahlias.
Congratulations, Kristin and Luke!! Thank you for re-inspiring us today!!!
Kristin's Bride Diaries
What was the most standout, "Wow!" moment of your wedding day?
Being introduced and walking in as Mr. & Mrs. Baird at our reception, our song we came into was Imagine Dragons "On Top of the World" and it is so happy and we were so happy our guests were happy, there was so much love in the room it was just incredible the vibes were just so perfectly positive! I don't think we ever smiled so much, and now every time I hear the song it just brings back such a happy moment I can't help but smile like a fool.
We know things don't always go as planned...Were there any entertaining wedding bloopers?
Ha, Yes! We had a steel drum player at our ceremony on the beach and he started to play our exit song before the ceremony was over because our wedding officiant gave him the cue, because he forgot about a part of the ceremony, which I think he mixed our ceremony up with another couple's because it was a little bit different than what we had gone over. It was funny and everyone laughed, no big deal, we gave him the signal to stop and just did the last part of the ceremony. Our advice if something happens like that just go with it, it makes more memories out of the day!
Any wedding toasts that made you laugh til you cried? Cry your eyes out? Gasp in shock?
We loved all our speeches, everyone really did a great job with them.
We don't judge! Did you have any Bridezilla moments of weakness?
Not really, I was pretty relaxed the whole day and just kind of went with the flow. We had a day of coordinator, which I think took a lot of the stress off of us, so we were able to just enjoy the whole day.
Did you have a wedding planner? If so, what did he/she do to make your day run smoother? Did they fulfill your expectations?
We had a day of coordinator, Kristin Barse from BelMomento, who was AMAZING! Dawn actually recommended her to us and I can't thank her enough for it. It rained on our wedding day and it was my mom's worst fear of that happening since our ceremony was on the beach, but Kristin handled the whole thing like a champ, kept all the vendors and guests informed of the status and was able to make our ceremony on the beach a success. There were 2 great things about Kristin that stand out the most to me: 1. She was literally like a friend the whole time during our planning and the day of the wedding. She is so friendly, welcoming, and personal that you don't feel like she is a stranger just helping you with your wedding day. She listens to you like a friend would and makes all your wedding dreams come true she is really unbelievable. 2. With her as our day of coordinator Luke, myself, and our parents were able to enjoy the whole day and not worry about 1 thing, not even the rain, because we just trusted Kristin to handle the situation. I don't think we would have been able to enjoy the day as much as we did without her because of all the stress that we probably would have had to deal with. I would recommend her to anyone in a second and I can't thank Dawn enough for recommending her to us.
Cake or cupcakes? What was the flavor and theme?
CAKE, that was delicious and beautiful! We received so many comments on how good the cake was and also how beautiful the flowers on the cake were. Every time I see a picture of our cake I think, what a beautiful cake, you girls did such an amazing job with the flowers! Flavor: Vanilla chocolate chip pound cake with a raspberry filling & vanilla pound cake with a Nutella filling.
We always try to bring your floral dreams to life...did we succeed? In what ways? Is there any room for improvement?
Mary & Dawn went above and beyond our floral dreams! I don't even know where to start there were so many beautiful flowers everywhere and the arbor was perfect and chalkboard turned out so well! Luke loved his boutonniere and so many people commented on them and how well they held up and what a unique choice of flowers they were. I feel like we just told Mary & Dawn a few flowers that we liked, gave them a couple things that I picked up over the year, maybe 2 pictures of a bouquet and boutonniere that we liked and somehow created our most perfect wedding decor. They honestly went above and beyond a normal florist job of just giving us flowers for tables and flowers to hold, they decorated our wedding for us and created the most beautiful space for us and our guests to enjoy a beautiful day. My bridesmaids raved about their bouquets and how unique they were. My bouquet was absolutely stunning and again so unique with so many different flowers and textures. My mom actually took my bouquet into work (we work at the same place) and put it in a vase for our customers to enjoy, since we left right away for our honeymoon and I didn't want such a beautiful bouquet to go to waste. I can not tell you how many customers are still commenting on the bouquet when they see me that is how memorable the arrangement was. We also had a surprise when we came home from our honeymoon; my brothers had planted a bunch of the succulents and air plants from the wedding in pots & globes and put them throughout our house for us. We love seeing the plants everyday and watching them grown and just reliving a piece of our wedding every day! Mary & Dawn & their team were amazing and we can not thank you enough for creating something so beautiful and unique to compliment our wedding day so perfectly.
What song really got the party started?
I can't even remember, people were dancing as soon as the salads were served and didn't leave the dance floor until they turned the lights on. People were sore the next day from all the dancing that was going on.
Who were your vendors?
Catering- Sea Salt at Ocean Club
Bakery- Victory Baking Services
Dress- Anna Campbell
Entertainment- CTO Artists
I hope your wedding was exactly as you imagined it would be, but are there any details that went above and beyond your expectations? Anything you wish you would've done differently?
Our day was so perfect in so many ways and everything went above and beyond any of our expectations we had and I think a lot of it has to do with trusting your vendors. We trusted all our vendors and gave them a few of our ideas and all of them went above and beyond. I think that is what we would recommend to other couples is just finding vendors you trust and can communicate with and letting them do their work, because if they are really a good fit for you they will listen and make your visions real.
