Avalon Wedding Florist : Jenna & Jon at the Windrift feat. Bride Diaries

There is something so incredibly peaceful about going down the shore during the off-season.  Avalon, NJ is packed with crowds during the summer, so it almost feels like the perfect secret to sneak down in late October.   That was the exact intimate feeling we had during Jenna and Jon's wedding at the Windrift Hotel.  The Windrift was the perfect venue for Jenna's color scheme of navy and deep teal.  Our bride was from Texas, and had a preference for succulents, airplants and cactus - need we say more?  Of course we were in love.

Our favorite photography duo of all time, Tami & Ryan Photography, gave us these beautiful images of a fall beach wedding.

Jenna's bouquet was a staff favorite, made with airplants, burgundy and white dahlias, roses, and seasonal leaves.  We loved her trailing ribbon tails and range of color.

Jenna's bridesmaid carried a similar bouquet to her own, which contrasted perfectly with the light teal shade of her dress.

We tucked some airplant into Jon's bout for a textural look.

We loved the simplicity of Jenna and Jon's ceremony space.  The white folding chairs leave little to distract from the crashing waves of the ocean and blue skies.  The pop of color in the aisle arrangements and galvanized buckets at the altar brought all the focus to the couple as they said their vows.

These buckets have never let us down for beach weddings.  The buckets themselves are casual enough on their own that we can go all out in packing them full of lush arrangements of flowers.  For Jenna and Jon's wedding, we used huge dahlias, astilbe, hydrangea, greenery and leaves for bright colorful designs, and the ribbon tails gave such pretty movement in the breeze.

We will always be in love with this interior.  The Windrift has such a great open space for receptions.

How cute are these potted succulents!  Placed in sand in our recycled glass vase, we brought the beach inside.

Our driftwood pieces were accented with silver mercury votives and small floral arrangements of hydrangeas, dahlias and astilbe for another centerpiece design.

A beach wedding never feels complete without our driftwood vase making an appearance - and it always looks so different!  This wild look of dusty miller, roses, dahlias and a forest worth of greenery made this arrangement a great statement piece for the bar.

The Windrift has a ton of windows to create its sense of openness in the room, and to give a great view of the beach outside - but when night comes, nothing feels more romantic than tons of candlelight reflecting off the windows for double the glow!

Congratulations, Jenna and Jon!  Thank you so much for including us in your special day!

Jenna's Bride Diaries

What was the most standout, "Wow!" moment of your wedding day?

For me, the most "Wow" moment of the day, was when I was standing on the ramp to the beach about to walk down the aisle.  That's when it hit me that I was actually getting married and the moment was here.  I was able to see all of my family and friends looking back towards me and finally saw Jon for the first time that day.  It was a very surreal moment filled with so many emotions- excitement, nervousness, happiness.  The rest of the ceremony is kind of a blur to me but I'm glad I had that moment before everything started to soak the day in.

We know things don't always go as planned...Were there any entertaining wedding bloopers?

As I was walking down the aisle and on the verge of crying big, ugly tears, my veil blew off in the wind.  My brother was walking me down the aisle and was able to catch my veil before it blew away.  My brother wasn't sure what to do with my veil so we stood in the middle of laughing until our photographer, Ryan, finally came to the rescue and helped put the veil back in.  During the ceremony, my veil blew off a few more times which helped to lighten the mood and keep me relaxed.  I now know that I should have bobby pinned my veil in!

Any wedding toasts that made you laugh til you cried? Cry your eyes out? Gasp in shock?

My brother gave a toast that made the entire room laugh hysterically- I even shed a few tears.  Jon and I have a dog, Lucy, who we love more than anything.  We often refer to her as our "dogter" and often forget that she is a dog, not a human.  To poke fun at us, my brother gave a toast that was written as an email from Lucy.   Lucy wrote about how happy she was that we were getting married and she wasn't an illegitimate dog anymore and was hoping that marriage meant she didn't have to dress up in silly costumes or give us high fives when she sits anymore.  I could tell that he put a lot of thought into the toast and it was the perfect combination of well wishes and humor.

We don't judge!  Any Bridezilla moments of weakness?
I really felt like I stayed calm throughout the whole process.  Since I was planning from far away, I knew that I had limited time to make plans in person during my trips home.  I really only felt like I had slight Bridezilla moments in the days leading up to the wedding but I got worried that we were running late for last minute appointments but those moments only lasted a few minutes and I calmed down quickly once we got where we needed to be,

Did you have a wedding planner? If so, what did he/she do to make your day run smoother? Did they fulfill your expectations?

No, we didn't use a wedding planner.  We planned everything on our own, but the Windrift team and our photographers were a huge help with day of details.

Cake or cupcakes? What was the flavor and theme?

Neither- we did a cheesecake bar!  Jon's favorite dessert is cheesecake, so we ordered a bunch of plain cheesecakes from the Tuckahoe Cheesecake Factory and displayed slices on a table with various toppings for guests to make their own cheesecake creation.

We always try to bring your floral dreams to life...did we succeed? In what ways? Is there any room for improvement?

More than exceeded! I really didn't have a clear picture of what my florals would look like.  I was very vague when I met with Mary and Dawn to discuss what I pictured on my wedding day.  I gave them a few ideas that I had but left most of it up to them.  I left the consultation feeling very confident that they knew exactly what kind of things I liked and the theme that I was going for. I had no doubt that whatever they came up with for me would be perfect.  On my way down to the ceremony, I was able to walk through the dining room and see everything set up before the room was filled with people. I was so, so, so happy with what I saw! I noticed that all of my friends were taking pictures of my centerpieces and arrangements throughout the night and Ronda, the Windrift banquet manager, said how original the arrangements were.  I also found it super helpful that A Garden Party has done other weddings at the Windrift and was able to give me good suggestions on where to put arrangements, candles, etc. in the space.  Since I was planning the wedding from Texas, it was so nice to put all of the design in the hands of someone else and feel totally confident that it would turn out great.

What song really got the party started?

I can't think of one song in particular that got the party started- it seemed the like second that dinner plates were cleared everyone ran to the dance floor and didn't leave until the reception wrapped up.  We both have families that like to dance so there was never a dull moment.  I've had a lot of fun looking through the candid action pictures from the reception and seeing pictures of some of the crazy dance moves that I missed out on seeing!

I hope your wedding was exactly as you imagined it would be, but are there any details that went above and beyond your expectations?  Anything you wish you would've done differently?

Everything was prefect and came together better than I could have ever imagined.  We had an absolutely gorgeous day and got to celebrate with the best people!  I wouldn't have changed a thing!
