Stone Harbor Florist : Lisa & Peter at The Women's Civic Club feat. Bride Diaries
As our business grows we continue to meet all kinds of interesting characters from quite literally all over the world. It's fascinating to discover how couples have met, and the journey they've gone on before coming through our doors to plan the next chapter of their lives. We're in the business of making romance tangible, but sometimes we have a couple that comes in whose personality outshines even the brightest of flowers. There was something especially lovely about working with Lisa and Peter, and their simple Stone Harbor NJ beach wedding was absolutely glowing.
Held at the Women's Civic Club of Stone Harbor, Lisa and Pete took to the stage to proclaim their love. Stephanie (who recently got married as well!) at Saltwater Studios truly shows the emotions of the day; the photographs of Lisa and Peter during their ceremony had me tearing up, and I love how the entire family got together for a huge group photo.
We loaded this shore wedding up with whites and greens, and we couldn't be happier with the end result. Check out this sweet, intimate wedding below!
Going along with her very natural theme, we wrapped Lisa's bouquet with a hosta leaf, then fastened on her grandmother's brooch. Her bouquet was made up of green spider mums, green button mums, roses, green hypericum, camellia foliage, ladies mantle, lambs ear (all three from my garden) and gladiolus blossoms.
We attached Lisa's fabric to this huge frame to create a floral backdrop for their ceremony. This is such a unique twist on the floral wall, and the clean lines of the frame and fabric are a great balance for the craziness of the greenery.
We used our vintage dressers and candleholders to set the rest of the ceremony scene. The elegant tapered candles and overflowing greens of wisteria, gladiolus, thistle, babies breath and lambs ear bursting out the drawer matched perfectly with the backdrop.
We filled some of Lisa's mason jars with agapanthus, peonies and more greens. Lisa's collection of handkerchiefs were strung along the stage to add some sentiment to the decor.
Don't let this picture fool you...Peter was JUST as emotional when talking about his love of Lisa. This is a man who buys his wife flowers every. single. week. Are you swooning yet? They have such a genuine love story, I can't get enough of it!
Love the fern napkin accent. Rentals provided by Rental City in Vineland NJ. Many thanks to Kristen Barse from BelMomento Events., it is always a pleasure to work with her! She is our favorite Jersey Shore wedding planner!
What a great group shot to have as a keepsake! Anyone whose tried this during holidays knows how impressive this is...kudos to Stephanie from Saltwater Studios for managing to not only get everyone in the photo, but to have them all smiling!
Opting out of bridesmaids or groomsmen, Lisa and Peter chose instead to have these floral and succulent cuffs made for those closest to them. We just love how even though they skipped the more traditional route, their choices are still classically beautiful.
What was the most standout, "Wow!" moment of your wedding day?
I have to say when I walked into the ceremony and saw all the people I love, heard my sister and her girls playing the violins and cello, and saw how beautifully Mary and her team had decorated our alter it really was my “Wow”. I could have looked at the alter all day.
We know things don't always go as planned...Were there any entertaining wedding bloopers?
Honestly there was really nothing. Everything really was perfect. I didn’t want it to end.
We don't judge! Did you have any Bridezilla moments of weakness?
The last couple weeks before the wedding I was convinced we were forgetting something big, but I have to say I was not at all nervous or anxious on my wedding day. It was great.
5. Did you have a wedding planner? If so, what did he/she do to make your day run smoother? Did they fulfill your expectations?
Yes, Kristen Barse from BelMomento Events. She was such a help the day before and day of our wedding. She took all the worry about coordinating all of our vendors and the flow of the wedding. We had a pretty low key event, but you still want to make sure everything goes off with no worries. She made sure that happened!
6. Cake or cupcakes? What was the flavor and theme?
Both, of course. We went with the sea theme of a pale blue buttercream icing with sand dollars and starfish decoration on a lemon cake. I wanted to get my cake from my favorite bakery in North Jersey (CocoLuxe in Peapack, NJ) so we got 3 cakes and put them on graduated cake plates. My cake topper was 2 shells together forming a heart. I loved the way it looked.
7. We always try to bring your floral dreams to life...did we succeed? In what ways? Is there any room for improvement?
Not only did you succeed you went above and beyond! From the minute I met Mary I knew I was in good hands. It really was like she was reading my mind. All the little touches she brings makes everything so special. My bouquet was perfect and exactly what I had envisioned. As were the flowers on the alter, on the tables and all over our reception. She was the one who thought of the soft burlap tablecloths that went perfectly with the mason jars of shells and flowers that I wanted. And the addition of a jar with moss and fairy light like fireflies was perfect. Her suggestion to have antique handkerchiefs for a banner in the front of the stage was lovely. And the floral bracelets and rings she did for the special people at our wedding couldn’t have been better. Flowers were my top priority for the wedding and I really found the best when I went to “A Garden Party”! Everything they did was perfect! I already told Pete I expect flowers from “A Garden Party” for every anniversary.
8. What song really got the party started?
Our 4 dance lessons paid off (LOL) for our first dance to The Carpenter’s “We’ve Only Just Begun” - but I have to say we had some people who did not leave the dance floor all night. Pharrell’s “Happy” got everyone up though!
9. Who were your vendors?
Catering- Shore Catering, Brick NJ. Patty is the best!
Bakery- CocoLuxe, Peapack, NJ
Dress- The Wedding Store at Liz Clinton’s, Andover, NJ. They couldn’t be nicer
Hair and Makeup- Fusion Salon, Avalon, NJ. I never looked better.
Any other vendors you would like to credit?
Photography – Stephanie McDowell, Saltwater Studios. An amazing photographer and lovely to work with.
Tent Rental and everything else from tables to linens – Rental City, Vineland, NJ
10. I hope your wedding was exactly as you imagined it would be, but are there any details that went above and beyond your expectations? Anything you wish you would've done differently?
As you might guess from my other responses, Mary really made a special day even more special with all the attention to detail she had for our wedding. She was a dream to work with and everything she did was perfect. I wanted to do it all over again the next day!
