We know we have been hinting a little strongly to how ready we are for warm weather...but we can't help it. We are florists, people, we live for bright, blooming flowers and we need the sun to do this! And today, the first day of spring, it is SNOWING. So since we can't change the weather, we will stick to enjoying the happiest of color palettes - orange, yellow, and pink fill this beach wedding at the Golden Inn .
The best thing about beach weddings is that it helps us enjoy summer as long as possible - this event actually took place in September even though it looks like June! Thank you, Pravada Photography , for sharing Kerry and Greg's little ray of sunshine wedding with us!
Kerry loved peonies, but unfortunately they weren't in season for her wedding date. Instead, we went with these gorgeous dinner plate dahlias - another 'statement piece' flower that are so big and full of color, no bride could be disappointed! We also used coral garden roses, peach ranunculus, coral amaryllis, peach stock and snapdragons for this bright and sunny bouquet.
This is such a beautiful shot of such a lovely bride! We can't wait to start using these dahlias again!
Kerry and Greg had such a pretty ceremony space! We used our black iron canopy to hang this thick garland made of tons of eucalyptus strung together. We then added in dahlias, roses, carnations and ranunculus to match the bouquets and aisle pieces.
For the aisle arrangements, we used our black shepherds hook with hanging vases, and filled them with orange snapdragons, stock, and dahlias.
We love how much the bright colors of the flowers help the whole ceremony space stand out. Kerry made an excellent selection in mixing the teal color of her bridesmaids dresses with the orange and pink shades of their bouquets - the perfect beach wedding color scheme.
The bride chose glass cubes as vases for her centerpieces, and we used all the same flowers from her ceremony and bouquets. Wrapping the cubes in a few layers of raffia helped keep up with the beach theme.
That amaryllis reminds me of the tropics. Perfect hair flower!
Kerry's second centerpiece choice was our rectangular recycled glass vase, which we filled with a layer of sand ,votives, and scattered rose heads.
Now that's a cake! The couple's cake was wrapped with raffia on each tier, and then had cascading flowers coming down, with an assortment of roses and dahlias in shades of pink, white, red and orange. We love the surprise for the groom at the base - Batman peeking out!
Congratulations, Kerry and Greg! Thanks for warming us up today!
Kerry's Bride Diaries
What was the most standout, "Wow!" moment of your wedding day?
There were so many parts of the day that were so special. I think for me (the bride) walking down the aisle was the most standout moment. I hadn't seen my husband all day (as well as most of our friends and family). So when I got to the top of the dune (our wedding was on the beach) I was able to see everything from a slightly higher ground. I was in awe of how beautiful the ceremony was set up, of all of our loved ones in front of me, and my husband waiting for me at the end of the aisle. That was the moment it all felt real.
We know things don't always go as planned...Were there any entertaining wedding bloopers?
Surprisingly our wedding went almost as planned! We worked with an amazing coordinator at The Golden Inn who took care of absolutely EVERYTHING. If something went wrong, we didn't know about it.
The most comical little "blooper" would have to be when one of our ring bearers and flower girls were starting to walk toward the aisle but started walking toward the ocean instead. It made everyone laugh a little and luckily one of their moms stopped them before they reached the water and guided them to right way.
Any wedding toasts that made you laugh til you cried? Cry your eyes out? Gasp in shock?
Our maid of honor and best man kept their speeches short and sweet. My sister, the maid of honor, had a list printed and lamented for my husband with ways to keep a "Colloton" girl happy. Essentially she told him to give me coffee before talking to me in the morning, feed me when I am hungry, and I am always right even when I am wrong. She's a great speaker and it was very funny. We love it and he still has his copy of the rules :).
We don't judge! Did you have any Bridezilla moments of weakness?
I like to think I was pretty laid back throughout the entire process. I had an amazing mother and bridal party who were always offering to help with anything.
Did you have a wedding planner? If so, what did he/she do to make your day run smoother? Did they fulfill your expectations?
We worked with Jen Quig from The Golden Inn. She took care of everything! I honestly didn't have to deal with anything the day of our wedding. She made sure everyone was where they needed to be at certain times, she made sure the food and service was perfect, she handled the rehearsal and ceremony, and so much more. If we had a question or request she took care of it. It really took the stress off of us!
Cake or cupcakes? What was the flavor and theme?
We were supposed to have a vanilla cake with tiramisu filling but the bakery ended up giving us the standard vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing by accident. It honestly was a great mistake because our cake was delicious!! We had "A Garden Party" make the flowers to go on our cake which came our so beautifully and then I had a little batman figure hidden at the bottom for my husband because he absolutely loves batman and I felt bad we didn't incorporate too many "manly things" into our wedding day.
We always try to bring your floral dreams to life...did we succeed? In what ways? Is there any room for improvement?
You absolutely brought my dreams to life! I came to the meetings with ideas from magazines and Pinterest and you guys made it happen! I really wanted peonies because they are my favorite flowers but they were not in season for my wedding so Mary found substitutes that were just as beautiful. The bouquets and centerpieces were just so breathtaking. We were so thrilled with them!
What song really got the party started?
I honestly cannot remember. We were busy mingling with guests when people started to party...apparently some people broke out a scarf and started the limbo. We missed that part of the dance party but I think that's when a lot of people started getting up to dance.
Who were your vendors?
Catering-The Golden Inn
Bakery-The Bake Works
Hair and Makeup-Denise Gevaras and Debbie Beck
Entertainment-DJ Tommy from Steve and Company
I hope your wedding was exactly as you imagined it would be, but are there any details that went above and beyond your expectations? Anything you wish you would've done differently?
We were thrilled with our wedding. Even if something went wrong, we didn't know. We wouldn't change anything. We had the most perfect day with the best group of family and friends. We are just sad it's all over.
