A Garden Party Review : 2015 Highlights
As the final days of 2015 come rolling in, we sit and reflect on how the year has treated us. As professionals, this has probably been our biggest year of growth, with amazing new accomplishments that would have only been dreams a few years ago. As sisters, we bond over how our families are growing up! Watching the parallels of maturity in both our children and our business is what makes the long days and sleepless nights worth it all.
So thank YOU to all of our supporters, brides, clients, and those who just love flowers and pretty things as much as we do! Here is our 2015 recap!
We dove into this year with a lot of drive - designing a full event is a lot of hard work, but we love watching the entire vision come together beyond the flowers. We now publicly offer this service to clients, which includes furniture rentals, lighting options, pipe and drape, and linen selections. We also feel as though it makes it easier for clients to make more decisions under one roof, and to keep an event as cohesive as possible.
Oh baby. We were SO excited for this project at Alexandra's wedding at the Inn at Fernbrook Farms. We fell so far in love, we had to do another one for Cristina's wedding at Brantwyn. Intimidating? Yes. Stunningly beautiful? YES. Something we will re-create every opportunity we get? YES and YES!
Fox29 News Features...Twice!
What an honor! Our fabulous friendor and event planner, Renee Patrone gave us a stunning recommendation that led to our debut on television with Jennaphr Frederick. We talked about wedding trends at the Horticulture Center and had such a great time we ended up doing another segment featuring our gardens!
Expanding the Cutting Garden
Growing our own flowers not only allows a beautiful scenery to work in, but also helps us provide the freshest, most spontaneous additions to our designs. Sometimes there is just a little tweak to be made, or something missing in our centerpieces, and we have run out to the gardens to fill the spot. Sometimes, a neighbor will come by wanting an arrangement to take home and we gather what we can from outside. Purposefully planting a cutting garden gives us more flexibility to provide for our clients, and factor more plants into our recipes. We can't wait to be surrounded by the lush greenery and blooms this spring!
A Whole New Look
2015 was a breath of fresh air behind-the-scenes as well! We wanted more control of our online presence, so we decided to create a whole new website, new logo (thanks, Bailey!), and new branding and packaging. We feel that this reflects our garden style, and our mix of art and organization. Our new website layout allows for more photos to be displayed (yay!) and an easier way for clients to get a full view of the services we offer.
A Milkhouse Party is born
Our single biggest project of 2015 was definitely the development of A Milkhouse Party. Cleaning out the parlor was a huge task in itself - transforming it to the workshop studio it is today would have been impossible without months of hard work, dedication, and motivation for what it could be. The tagline of the logo, "Collaborate, Create, Celebrate" is the running theme of this space. We look forward to workshops with locals, former brides, and our future DIY clients!
Designing with Honor - Personalized Sympathy Work
Discussing funeral work is always an emotional time with clients. This year, we have been able to do more work that recreates the personality and passion of passed loved ones. We are so honored to those who come to us wanting to reflect the special traits of their relatives, and celebrate what they did in life. Tractors, mermaids, superheros, trucks and bakeware are just a few of the interests we have brought to life with flowers this year.
Finding our Niche - our wonderful brides
This year was our favorite year in terms of clientele. We have definitely developed a significant gardeny, wildflower style, and have found our dream clients in that trend. Wonderful brides with open minds, creativity and a similar sense of style has meant so much to us this year. This means that we can continue to grow and expand our design techniques, and love that we can always create something that we love as much as our clients do. Blush was definitely the most prominent trend - we didn't know so many shades of pink and cream existed! - but marsala seems to be coming in strong for next year!
Personal Accomplishments - What It's All About
Sometimes we get distracted with how busy we are, how many events are coming up, or worrying if we will be okay for the next year. There is a constant buzz of thoughts that run through our minds as business owners, and a responsibility to be successful. But seeing our kids thrive and grow is the all the motivation we need to keep pushing forward.
This year, Grace and Leah showed their maturity with a move to a new house - they were thrilled to pick out room colors, continue to be dance stars, and are excited for their new school. Grace is devouring books as fast as she can and Leah's rock band has had a rocky start, but we have a feeling she will make it big.
Lee has become an official Big Kid with his move to kindergarten, and he gets to ride a bus every day! He has just learned to tie his shoes, is making big strides in reading, and is starting his obsession with Minecraft and Legos. Sam is everybody's sweetheart, still loves everything on wheels, and is looking forward to a break from the stresses of Pre-school and a visit from Santa.
Thanks for checking in, everybody! Happy Holidays and cheers to 2016 being as amazing as 2015!
